I was very pleased to have been commissioned by Galerie Silvestre in Madrid to write a essay for Rebecca Glover’s The Foley Studio. Glover’s show ran from February 2nd to March 27th, 2024 and, as its title suggests, the beautifully composed installation of objects, sounds and diagrams explores the practice of foley within wider contexts. My essay “How To Put On Weight,” takes inspiration from Glover’s work to revisit the experience of listening from a temple balcony – and its reverberations – that was the catalyst for my CD Some Memories of Bamboo and to explore the common sonic things that cinema, for example, silences but which are amplified by subversive and speculative Foley like Glover’s.
I have put the English version of the essay on my (very rarely updated) Medium page.
