Beginning life in 2012 with a residency with the Fondazione Aurelio Petroni, this exploration of the springtime mountains near the village of San Cipriano Picentino near Naples in southern Italy, unexpectedly evolved into a number of different outcomes. An online soundmap, installation works in the exhibition Viso Come Territorio, an academic chapter in Sonic Thinking, a live performance with a sand artist (sic), fieldwork diaries in Reliquiae, and an album for Gruenrekorder, Paul Bailey‘s design for which won an Irish 100 Archive design award for 2016.
The residency was also the catalyst for two collaborative films with the film-maker Chiara Caterina. Il Vertice (2013) had a few screenings. Into The Outside (2015) emerged from another residency curated by Leandro Pisano and Beatrice Ferrara. It was was premiered at the Liminaria “#Unmapping Time” Festival and has since been screened at the “Land / Sea” conference at Exeter University, Cinema Zero (Trento), Happy Earth Festival (Naples), “Connecting Columns” (Srishti Outpost of Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India), Rural Futurism (Melbourne, AU), Interzona (San Martino Valle Caudina). It was selected for Media Library of “Doc Outlook” at Visions du Réel (CH) and received a Special Mention from judge Andrew Köttig at the Swedenborg Film Festival Prize (UK).
The soundtracks of Il Vertice and Into The Outside form one of the bases to a recursive collaboration with Chrystal Cherniwchan and Craig Tattersall called Non Mountain: a 10″ vinyl and book that contour high places in special reliefs of sound, image and text.
