My essay “Tout Kreyati Bèl / All Beautiful Creatures” is published in I for Iridescence,” a sumptuous artist book created from dialogues between Jani Ruscica and some great artists and thinkers: Tomaso Binga, Dineo Seshee Bopape, Diana Campbell, Lex Morgan Lancaster & Taneli Viljanen.
My text responds to six of Jani’s works that I especially like, using various forms of (hidden) constraints over textual production such as restrictions on syllables, controls of numbers and orders of words, acrostics, cryptograms and sampling other texts without attribution. (For Jani’s 2018 LP “Felt the Moonlight on my Feet” I wrote “Before Eternal Silence” where one of the constraints was a morse code message delivered through the punctuation, the writing of which almost broke me).
“Tout Kreyati Bèl / All Beautiful Creatures” fits into the ecology of the ongoing “Miasma of Decay” project, elements of which have been developed and published since 2020.
